Viral Hepatitis Surveillance Coordinator

The Iowa Department of Public Health is seeking a Viral Hepatitis Surveillance Coordinator.

Job Description

Under the direction of the bureau chief and functional oversight of the Data Program Manager, coordinates and serves as the lead epidemiologist for the Viral Hepatitis Surveillance Program, including providing functional oversight for surveillance activities for hepatitis B and C.

1. FTE Position – Health Scientist GS-13, Deadline 5/12/21

Seeking a candidate with expert knowledge of the scientific principles, concepts, methods, and techniques of public health research and demonstrated skills in performing complex analytical studies, interpreting results to coordinate the evaluation of programs and in communicating, both orally and in writing, to make clear, convincing presentations, and represent the agency and assigned program or project areas. This position reports to the NCHHSTP Associate Director for Health Equity. This opportunity is open to CDC/ATSDR employees, Commissioned Officers equivalent, and the general public. This is an open continuous announcement and will be used to fill various vacancies within any Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) organizations. 2. Post-Doctoral ORISE Fellowship, Deadline 6/23/21

The selected participant will receive training from NCHHSTP Office of Health Equity mentors in developing and implementing research projects that inform the development of effective strategies and interventions to reduce disparities in HIV, other STDs, TB and viral hepatitis and improve school health among one or more disproportionately affected populations. Effective strategies will support the guiding principal of high impact prevention, a public health approach to disease prevention in which proven, cost-effective and scalable interventions are implemented for preventing the greatest amount of infections or for reducing disparities, given available resources. Mentors and participants will collaborate to develop a list of diverse research activities that they will complete together over the two year (subject to funding) training period. CSTE Applied Epi Fellowship–applications reopened (close Friday, April 2nd)

The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) has reopened the Class XIX Applied Epidemiology Fellowship (AEF) program application to accept new applications for placements beginning summer 2021. The new application deadline is Friday, April 2, 2021. The goal of AEF is to provide a high quality on-the-job training experience in applied epidemiology for recent graduates and prepare fellows for long-term career placement at the state and local level. Based on their interests and available positions, fellows are matched to a state or local health agency for two years under the guidance of two experienced mentors.

During their assignment, fellows develop a set of core competency skills related to epidemiologic methods, communication skills, public health practice and policy.

CDC School COVID-19 Mitigation Evaluation Fellowship

CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health, Division of Population Health’s School Health Branch is seeking 3 ORISE Fellows to support the evaluation of COVID-19 mitigation approaches in schools. The positions are funded for one year.

Ideal candidates will have some experience with COVID-19 related projects, have strong quantitative analysis skills, and/or know and understand education agencies and schools really well.
