POSITION SUMMARY: The WIC Nutritionist is responsible for serving WIC participants through assessment of nutritional status, assigning appropriate WIC food packages, and providing participant-centered nutrition education and counseling. The WIC nutritionist promotes and supports breastfeeding and provides referrals to other medical and community resources.

Examples of Work

Provide additional capacity for pandemic response at Panhandle Public Health District in Scottsbluff, NE. CSTE Summer Public Health Law Internship

For more than seven decades, the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have worked together in partnership to improve the public’s health by supporting the efforts of epidemiologists working at the state and local level by promoting the effective use of epidemiologic data to guide public health practice and improve health. CSTE and its members represent two of the four basic components of public health – epidemiology and surveillance. CSTE, as a member-based organization, represents the interests of applied public health epidemiologists working in state, local, tribal, and territorial settings to improve the public’s health through effective epidemiology and surveillance. CSTE is currently recruiting for their Summer 2022 Public Health Law Internship Opportunity.  This is a paid (up to $20.00/hour) opportunity for a current law student or recent law school graduate interested in public health law.  The intern will work directly under the supervision of CSTE’s Public Health Attorney, and will be responsible for supporting a variety of CSTE’s Public Health Law portfolio development and training activities. Disease Intervention Specialist

Under the supervision of the bureau chief, maintains a regional field office for the delivery of disease prevention and public health services in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Serves as a liaison between IDPH and local public health for communicable diseases, including HIV, STDs, viral hepatitis, TB, and other vaccine-preventable diseases. Delivers STD and HIV partner services, including counseling, interviewing, and educating persons infected with communicable diseases. Solicits partner and contact information, provides referrals for support services, and acts as an advocate by ensuring linkage to case management, medical, and other support services. Performs partner/contact investigations, including location of partners, risk reduction counseling, HIV testing, and linkage to other follow-up testing and treatment. Conducts re-interviews for HIV-positive persons identified as out of care and/or never in care and works to connect them with appropriate medical services.
