Disease Intervention Specialist

Under the supervision of the bureau chief, maintains a regional field office for the delivery of disease prevention and public health services in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Serves as a liaison between IDPH and local public health for communicable diseases, including HIV, STDs, viral hepatitis, TB, and other vaccine-preventable diseases. Delivers STD and HIV partner services, including counseling, interviewing, and educating persons infected with communicable diseases. Solicits partner and contact information, provides referrals for support services, and acts as an advocate by ensuring linkage to case management, medical, and other support services. Performs partner/contact investigations, including location of partners, risk reduction counseling, HIV testing, and linkage to other follow-up testing and treatment. Conducts re-interviews for HIV-positive persons identified as out of care and/or never in care and works to connect them with appropriate medical services.

Examples of Work

Analyze and report program evaluation data, generate tables, graphs, charts, and other tabular material using MS Excel for agency reports; serve as a member of a data team that plans and conducts data projects; conduct analysis and interpretation of data; write, review and edit minority health reports; federal grant reporting, implement data projects for grants; develop program evaluation tools; analyze and report program evaluation data; and provide written summaries on office activities for use in grant reports. 

REQUIREMENTS: Post high school coursework/training in program evaluation, financial analysis and research techniques, AND experience performing or leading others in program and technical support, research or statistical analysis. 

PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in public health, social/behavioral science, statistics, or other related field of quantitative analysis; OR Experience applying statistical methods and techniques to program. Project, administrative, or demographic data can be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in MS Excel and Word, and experience in research or data analysis (can include university coursework) and writing reports. Exceptional English writing skills preferred.

Global Health Project Associate

Immunization Epidemiologist

Job Description

This position will serve as the Immunization Program Epidemiologist for the Iowa Department of Public Health. The Immunization Program resides in the Bureau of Immunization and Tuberculosis.

Responsibilities of this position include:
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Bureau, this position will provide epidemiological analysis of vaccine preventable diseases and immunization data. This position will assist with data related to the Immunization Program and the Public Health Tracking Portal. Duties include data tracking, statistical analysis, and reporting on immunization coverage levels compared to state and national benchmarks for immunization rates for all age groups and social/ economic determinants. The position works in collaboration with program staff regarding data sets and leads work to collect, compile, analyze and report statistical data. This position will require the use of SAS statistical software and Tableau data visualization programs to complete reports and ad hoc data requests. This position will be responsible for analyzing data and preparing reports prior to submission to CDC and coordinating public facing data sets. Utilize data to perform statistical analysis of Bureau data. Disseminate data and evaluation results to internal and external stakeholders and use results to recommend specific action and/or new policies, procedures, and standards for program quality improvement and provide technical assistance to IDPH grantees on data related issues. Participate in Department data work groups, CDC site visits, and state and national trainings and workshops.

Health Assessments & Plans Communications Specialist

The Iowa Department of Public Health is looking to fill a Health Assessments and Plans Communications Specialist to assist the department. This position functions within the Deputy Director’s Office and the Bureau of Public Health Performance.

The successful candidate for the position will assist with the coordination and technical assistance to IDPH advisory groups, state agencies, state community planning groups, and other organizations in implementing the state health needs assessment and improvement plan (SHA&SHIP).
