Senior Director of Programs, Nebraska Appleseed

Position Summary

The Senior Director of Programs leads the organization’s programs in coordinating work through the strategies of policy, legal, and organizing. The position reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Lead program teams by motivating, guiding, developing, and providing feedback.

  • Conduct weekly meetings with direct reports to provide updates, guidance, and understand progress and barriers.

  • Initiate and set goals with Program Directors for the programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization.

  • Assist Program Directors with planning the programs from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones, and processes.

  • Ensure Directors are working closely to coordinate and effectively implement Appleseed’s multidisciplinary work (e.g., policy, litigation, organizing).

  • Ensure work is aligned to the organization’s strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • 5 or more years management experience.*

  • 3 or more years experience with one or more of the core advocacy strategies of the organization (legal, policy, organizing).*

  • 3 or more years experience with advocacy in one or more of the core program issue areas of the organization considered a plus.

  • Strong management skills, including conflict resolution, facilitating collaboration, and coaching.*

  • A self-starter with initiative and strong project management skills who can manage multiple projects, next steps, and deadlines.*

  • A strategic thinker who always keeps the big picture in mind.*

  • Experience developing leadership in others and able to plan for strategy and implementation.*

  • A team player who is curious, creative, energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive.
