Birgit Khandalavala, MD and Ferdinando Andrade, MD will travel to Los Angeles next week for ObesityWeek.
ObesityWeek is “a unique, international event focused on the basic science, clinical application, surgical intervention and prevention of obesity. By combining both American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and The Obesity Society (TOS) annual meetings, ObesityWeek brings together world-renowned experts in obesity to share innovation and breakthroughs in science unmatched around the globe.”
Dr. Andrade will presenting a poster titled “Feasibility of a SSB consumption survey in an Underserved Pregnant cohort at a Community Health Center”.
The study was initiated by Dr. Birgit Khandalavala in collaboration with Kristine McVea, MD, Chief Medical Director, OneWorld Community Health Centers, and Alex Dworak, MD.
It was implemented with the help of bilingual volunteer, Maya Nirmalraj, and residents Ferdinando Andrade, MD; Kris Huber, MD; Jose Mayorquin, MD; Ronoel Penalver, MD; Jeremy Howe, MD; and Wolfgang Rodriguez, MD.
Outcomes of the survey study deemed it feasible. Teamwork and extraordinary collaboration between residents, faculty, as well as OneWorld Community Health Center and UNMC have led to this success.
