Department of Family Medicine faculty members have always played an active role in the Student Run Free Clinic Faculty Association (SRFCFA). Assistant Professors, Dr. Melanie Menning and Dr. Jennifer Liu are now on the SRFCFA Research Committee.
“As the organization is quite new, research has not yet played a large role but we are hoping to help increase this,” Dr. Menning said.
The Society of Student Run Free Clinics is made up of 96 clinics from four different countries. The research committee hopes to form collaborations between the clinics to allow for larger scale research to be conducted.
Additionally, the committee hopes to develop a mentorship program for students and junior faculty who are looking to take a more active role in research and the Journal of Student-Run Free Clinics.
The SRFCFA held their annual meeting March 1-2, 2019 in Kansas City, Missouri.
