Douglas County Health Department is seeking a Lead Program Coordinator. Under the direction of the assigned supervisor or designee, incumbent coordinates the scheduling of other Douglas County Health Department Lead Program staff. Performs a variety of duties involving the inspection of houses and other dwellings for lead-based paint, conducting investigations, case monitoring, and reporting of children with suspected and confirmed cases of elevated blood lead levels; conducts family and group educational sessions to educate the public on causes, remedial actions, environmental controls, and prevention methods.
Essential Functions:
Process all cases received from reporting laboratories or physicians involving children with confirmed elevated blood-lead levels. Inform parents/legal guardians of test results, possible causes, and remedial actions. Document the performance and results of all tests and inspections.
Conduct lead-focused environmental investigations of houses, daycare facilities, and other dwellings of children with elevated blood-lead levels.
Coordinate follow?up procedures for all elevated test results with clinics, physicians, parents/legal guardians and lead abatement programs.
Conduct follow?up inspections of dwellings with elevated lead levels on a 30?day cycle to check progress of lead abatement until the dwelling is remediated. Document results of each inspection.
Participate in community health fairs providing education. Inform the public of the resources available to make their home lead safe.
Conduct educational and training sessions with groups, organizations, and medical staff as authorized, or as directed by supervisor.
Provide support to and/or participate in lead-related research studies to the extent approved by the Director, Division Chief and/or supervisor.
Coordinate rotations of medical and nursing students with the Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) lead program.
Participate in the development and design of lead poisoning prevention educational materials.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, Social Sciences, Human Growth and Development, or a related field, which must include at least 30 hours in the basic natural science.
One year of directly related experience required. Experience or training in conducting lead inspections preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and own mode of transportation at the time of hire and throughout the course of employment.
Successful completion of a pre-employment physical review including a back assessment which evidences the ability to safely lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Successful completion of a criminal records check and drug screening test.
Registration as a Sanitarian in the State of Nebraska preferred.
Registration as a Lead Risk Assessor in the State of Nebraska required upon completion of orientation/training.
