Walking the Talk – at Kearney HSEC

The UNMC-Kearney Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Class of 2020 live the values of their chosen field by “walking the talk,’’ according to professor Pat Hageman, PT, PhD, FAPTA.

Dr. Hageman recently taught from HSEC-Kearney with transmission to UNMC-Omaha. During a scheduled break between her lectures, students invited Pat to power-walk with the class on their outdoor trail for 4 minutes of the 10-minute, between-lecture break.

This UNMC-Kearney DPT student cohort started the walking tradition between classes during the first year of their professional education. The students navigate HSEC stairs during inclement weather, and a friendly competition in step counts between students is the norm.

Physical therapists (PTs) are movement experts who improve quality of life through prescribed exercise and activity, hands-on care, and patient education. Per Dr. Hageman, “these students role-model the values of the profession, inspirational indeed.”
