Psychiatry Department gathers for summer food fest

The Department of Psychiatry welcomed faculty, staff, trainees and their families and friends to its inaugural Summer Food Festival on Aug. 27 at Elmwood Park.

On August 27, the Department of Psychiatry welcomed its new employees and trainees to a summer food festival at Elmwood Park near the University of Nebraska Omaha campus.

More than 200 people attended the event, which replaced the department’s traditional winter holiday party. Instead of an indoor event with catered food, the department moved the festivities outdoors to a park with food provided by four food trucks: Javi’s Tacos, 402 BBQ, La Casa, and Sweet Treats Mini Donuts.

“I loved the energy of the inaugural Psychiatry Summer Food Festival,” said Psychiatry Department Chair, Howard Liu, MD, MBA.  “People had fun trying different food trucks, and it is always fun to connect with our colleagues outdoors and to meet their loved ones.  These events are so important to celebrate the culture of our department.  Thank you to all of the organizers who planned the event!”

Along with good food, there were entertainment and games. Dr. Liu said he expects the food festival to become an annual summer event.
