Shayla Yoachim, PhD, MA, recently joined the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions faculty in Kearney. Here’s more about Dr. Yoachim in her own words:

I am a born and raised Husker, growing up in Omaha and then attending UNL for my undergrad and master’s degree, and UNMC for my PhD. After earning my doctorate, I have held various faculty positions at Marquette University and KansasCOM, but seem to always return to the good life, spending seven years at UNMC College of Dentistry and now joining the CAHP team in Kearney. I am thrilled to continue serving the University of Nebraska, there is no place like home! An anatomist by training, I have almost 15 years of experience teaching various biomedical sciences (gross anatomy, physiology, embryology, histology, and my true love – neuroanatomy) to many different cohorts of health professional students. My research focuses on the impact of different learning modalities on the development of students’ hard and soft skills, and my passion lies within supporting student success and overall well-being during health professional training.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me at a baseball field, soccer field, or outdoor track cheering on my three not-so-little boys – Graham, Rhett, and Rory. My husband, Collin (a graduate of UNMC’s DNP program), and I love to be outside whether it’s the sidelines, tailgating, or hiking and exploring national parks.
