Build Site Volunteers

• Build sites are limited to 8 people
• We can split larger groups into multiple sites if needed.
• Build site opportunities are available Wednesday-Saturday.
• Volunteer shifts start at 8:00 AM and wrap up at 3:00 PM.
• Habitat will provide all tools, training, and safety equipment needed for the day.
• Habitat typically does NOT provide lunch for volunteers. You must bring your lunch or leave the job site during the lunch break to eat nearby, and plan on returning.
• All volunteers must be 16 to work on a build (with restrictions on ladders and power tool usage for those 16-18).

Schedule & duties

• Participants need to register 7-10 days before the service date for address assignment purposes. We can still register some people after the deadline if permitted by the construction team
• Registered volunteers will receive an email 48 hours before the service date with their assigned build site location.
•  We require our participants to complete the full shift as it helps us achieve our goal in terms of the number of houses built.
• No construction experience is required. Our construction team members will provide the appropriate training on the site. Our volunteers currently do framing or siding, and it depends on the address where your team will be assigned. You will receive all this information when your worksite location address is assigned

Safety & Gear

• It will be an outdoor opportunity. Please wear closed-toed shoes/weather-appropriate clothing. Remember, this is an active construction site when choosing your attire.
• All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided by Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, so there is no need to bring any personal PPE.
• In case of bad weather, including rain, we cancel the volunteer shift by emailing all volunteers if inclement weather occurs before the shift. If inclement weather happens during the shift, the construction lead will call for an early dismissal.

Site Logistics

• All registered volunteers will receive their site location address 48 hours before the service date. As construction sites are dynamic, we cannot assign an address far ahead.
• You can have the name and the phone of your site lead on your service day.
• Our construction crew members have a water station in their trucks where water cups can be refilled. Depending on the worksite, the construction crew members will show you places where you can leave your cups. You are also welcome to bring your own water cooler.
