Finding a Wellness App

In this day and age, there are so many apps we can use in our day to day lives. From apps that help keep us organized to those that help us learn new languages, there are a plethora of options you can browse and download.

Included in this are wellness apps. Maybe you’ve heard of some, like the Fitness app that comes with iPhones or Headspace for guided meditations. However, there are so many apps to choose from and they all come with various benefits and downsides.

Maggie Emerson, BSN’06, MSN’11, DNP’17 researches the use of mobile apps in the integrated environment for patients to successfully access psychiatric care. Through her experience researching and evaluating these apps, she has developed criteria to determine if an app is worth downloading and, if so, whether it will be helpful for patients.
