Being a Laboratorian in a Rural Hospital

Happy National Rural Health Day! The third Thursday in November each year is a day to celebrate the “selfless, community-minded, and determined spirit that prevails in rural America!” Many of our UNMC alumni have trained and/or currently serve in rural areas, and we recognize the importance and value of this crucial work.

Brad Hays, a 1994 graduate of UNMC’s laboratory science program, shares what it is like being a laboratorian in a rural Nebraska hospital and how he has to adapt being away from larger cities. He serves as the Director of Laboratory Services at Community Hospital in McCook.
