Emma Thayer recently joined our Office of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs as a recruiting intern. Here’s more about Emma in her own words:
I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. I graduated from Millard North High School in 2021 and am currently a junior at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, majoring in Psychology with a concentration in Mental Health. My academic interests lie in abnormal psychology, particularly in understanding and treating personality and mood disorders. I also hold a minor in Philosophy, with a focus on care ethics and animal ethics. I plan to pursue graduate studies, ideally earning a master’s degree in counseling with the goal of becoming a licensed mental health professional. I am passionate about incorporating animal-assisted therapy into my future practice, and I hope to work with service animals—especially dogs—as well as support individuals who benefit from emotional support animals.
In the spring of 2024, I completed the Disney College Program in Kissimmee, Florida, where I worked at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios on Sunset Boulevard. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, writing, watching videos, spending time with friends, and continuing to explore topics in psychology. I’m also an avid fan of musical theater and anime. I share my home with four very spoiled guinea pigs—three I’ve raised since they were babies, and one I adopted from the Nebraska Humane Society in the summer of 2024.
