Welcome new postdoc research associate: Irene Suh, PhD

Irene Suh, PhD

Irene Suh, PhD, recently joined our research team in the physical therapy program. Here’s more about Dr. Suh in her own words:

I am so excited to be reconnected with UNMC since both of my undergraduate and graduate educations were completed within the University of Nebraska System. I have a diverse academic background for me to conduct multidisciplinary study. During my PhD, I applied both computer science and mathematical knowledge to understand human performance and learning in medical trainees during robot-assisted surgery and medical stimulation at the Center for Advanced Surgical Technology. Through my PhD project, I expanded my knowledge to occupational health, medical science, and behavior psychology.

Now that I am back at UNMC to work as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Joseph Siu and his multidisciplinary team: mechanical engineers at UNL and software developers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. This new NIH-funded project will develop a remote training system with endless virtual possibilities that expand my research interests in applying medical science into clinical practice. Our research team anticipates that the new system could help minimally invasive surgeons to advance their surgical skills and clinical decision making.

I am originally from Seoul, Korea. My husband, Paul, and I are now resided in Omaha with two children. We adopted a spot from Keep Omaha Beautiful during fall and spring to help clean our community. We enjoy going out to parks, walking, hiking, biking, and especially flying kites on windy days.
