Kyle Meyer, Senior Associate Dean of the School of Allied Health Professions (SAHP), and Mike Huckabee, Director, Division of Physician Assistant Education, recently met with faculty of the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) in San Antonio, Texas, to explore further areas of collaboration. UNMC SAHP and IPAP have been partners in PA education over twenty years, including a coordinated effort to award professional academic degrees to all IPAP graduates from UNMC.
IPAP trains over 200 PAs each year for service in the military. Students are selected from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, receiving education jointly in didactic studies at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. They are then deployed for clinical rotations in over 20 military sites across the country. Upon graduation they are often deployed around the world including regions under combat to provide health care to military personnel, their families, and civilians.
As a part of the meetings, Drs. Meyer and Huckabee presented selected IPAP faculty with their notifications of adjunct UNMC faculty appointments.
