Zimmerman is GCEA President-Elect

Holly Zimmerman

Genetic Counselor Educators Association elected Holly Zimmerman as President-Elect for the 2025-2026 term. Holly joined the organization in 2018 as the inaugural director of the Genetic Counseling Program at UNMC. She has served on the Board the last three years and served as Director (2022), Secretary (2023-2024), and Treasurer (2024-2025).

The Genetic Counselor Educators Association (GCEA) is a national organization that consists of institutions who have a genetic counseling program accredited by the Accreditation Council of Genetic Counseling. This organization promotes the collaborative interactions between genetic counseling programs, supports high standards of practice, and advocates on behalf of the interests of training programs.

Genetic Counseling Awards

In other genetic counseling news, the program recently gave out their annual awards, and students vote for the recipients. Outstanding Supervisor Award went to Jessie Poskochil (graduate of Class of 2021). Mary Matthiessen received the Pillar of Support award. Jessie’s will be recognized at the Genetic Counseling National Meeting in November.
