A new collaboration between Pat Hageman, PT, PhD, FAPTA, Michael Yoerger, MA, and Liz Wellsandt, PT, PhD, examined 30-month weight loss and weight maintenance outcomes of women with obesity and physician-diagnosed arthritis. Their findings showed that women who have weight losses of ≥ 5% of baseline body weight had clinically relevant improvements in blood pressure, HDL, and self-reported physical function.
This team was selected as the recipient of the 2018 Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section Best Poster Award for their presentation at the February 2018 Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association. The award recognizes achievement for clinical relevancy, research design and presentation.
Dr. Hageman commented, “What a joy to learn from and work together with Liz, a UNMC alumnus (Class of 2009) and now assistant professor in the Division of Physical Therapy Education, as well as Michael, our program affiliate.”
The team plans to continue their collaboration and submit their work for peer-reviewed publication.
Congratulations on a great collaborative effort!
