Corrine Hanson, PhD, RD, LMNT, received funding as a co-investigator on a 5-year, $5 million NIH grant. This grant will create a Center of Excellence called the Comparing Urban and Rural Effects of poverty on COPD (CURE COPD) Center. The Center is a collaboration between Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and East Tennessee State University. The aim of this Center is to understand the interactive effects of high indoor air pollution, obesity and pro-inflammatory diets on respiratory morbidity in both urban and rural low income communities, both of which suffer disproportionate prevalence and morbidity from COPD. Nadia Hansel at JHU is the PI for the Center.
