RSTE Students Bring Home Awards

This past weekend was a busy one for our faculty and students in the radiation sciences!

 Lisa Bartenhagen, program director in the radiation therapy program, accompanied her students to Illinois for the Chicago Area Radiation Therapist 2010 Annual Conference & Student Registry Review April 16 – 18, 2010.

Results of the student essay competition were as follows:

2 nd Place – Laura Zastrow (UNMC Radiation Therapy Program)
Essay entitled:  “Carbon Ion Therapy”

3 rd Place – Patti Moyer (UNMC Radiation Therapy Program)
Essay entitled:  “Breast Cancer Treatment for Pregnant Women”

Meanwhile, here in Nebraska, the 79th Annual Conference of the Nebraska Society of Radiologic Technologists (NSRT) proved to be the best attended conference in its history. The conference took place in Grand Island from April 15 – 17, 2010.

 

James Temme served as a representative for the American Society of Radiologic Technologists at the meeting and presented “Innovators and Their Innovations in Radiation Science Technology.”  Other faculty members in attendance included Connie Mitchell, Tammy Jones, and Tanya Custer (NSRT Advisory Board member 2009-2011).

 Results in their competition were as follows:

1st Place – Margaret Carson (UNMC Radiation Therapy Program)
Paper entitled:  “The Treatment of Early Stage Breast Cancer with Mammosite or Intraoperative Radiation Therapy”

2nd Place – Kelli Chappelle (UNMC Radiation Therapy Program)
Paper entitled:  “Chemoradiotherapy and the Treatment of Locally Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer”

3rd Place – Brett Thomas (UNMC Radiation Therapy Program)
Paper entitled:  “Total Marrow Irradiation with Helical Tomotherapy vs Total Body Irradiation”
