Research Data Management Session September 24, 2014 12:00-1:00 pm MCPH 3013 This presentation will cover UNMC Data Classification, storage options, and research data management basic principles. Research IT Office (RITO), in collaboration with Laboratory Safety Inspection team, is designing a questionnaire to help researchers better manage data, software and hardware.   RITO is also looking forward to working with departmental administrators and IT personnel to help researchers in implementing Research Data Management guidelines. Community-Driven Solutions to Public Health Problems

Spotlight on Research at COPH – Both social marketing and community-based participatory research demonstrate the importance of understanding the perspective of people impacted by a given issue. However, each stops short of fully engaging people in the entire process of researching, developing, implementing, and evaluating solutions to those problems. Leveraging points of convergence between those two proven approaches has led a proposed integrated approach to developing sustainable interventions. Lina Lander, ScD: Assessing Perspectives on Health Information Exchange in Nebraska

Spotlight on Research at COPH – The Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NeHII) is Nebraska’s state-designated Health Information Exchange (HIE) and the statewide integrator of electronic health information. Participating providers can exchange health information to make more complete information available at the point of patient care. As of February 2014, more than 2.7 million patients, 1,388 physician providers, and 2,186 health care providers participate in NeHII. Research Improves Health Outcomes of Agricultural Workers

Spotlight on Research at COPH – Improving health outcomes, reducing injuries, and reducing deaths in the agricultural sector are all aims of the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (CS-CASH). Two COPH Students Receive Best Poster Awards at the 2013 Student Research Day

Spotlight on Research at COPH – Kelli Gruber, an MPH student in the epidemiology concentration, received the best poster award for her poster titled “Minimally Invasive Surgery for Colon Cancer.” In her poster summary, Kelli noted the following: “Colorectal cancer (CRC) is ranked third for cancer incidence and mortality in the United States. Spotlight on Research at COPH – Dr. Joshi’s research interests include global health; multifaceted technology-mediated interventions to support chronic care; and computer-mediated health education, geovisualization, and health outcomes. Dr. Joshi blends his clinical medicine training with biomedical research, public health research, and computer science and engineering research. He uses technology-mediated, multifaceted interventions to support care of patients with chronic diseases.
