Dana Raml, MD, has been promoted to associate professor in the UNMC Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Raml, who joined the faculty in 2019, has held many roles during her time as an instructor and assistant professor. Currently, she’s the Division Director of the Adult Outpatient Division and the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education for the Department of Psychiatry. For her hard work in undergraduate education, Dr. Raml was awarded the prestigious UNMC Psychiatry Flint Award for Educational Excellence (pictured right) and was honored as Clinical Specialty Track Director of the Year for 2024-25.
“Dr. Raml is first and foremost a teacher and mentor,” said Melissa O’Dell, MD. “Whether she is working with learners, faculty, or other colleagues, she has a unique ability to recognize people’s strengths and help them develop them further. She offers feedback thoughtfully and directly, in a way that encourages growth rather than defensiveness—a rare skill most of us can stand to improve on.”
On the national scale, Dr. Raml served on the Association of Directors in Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP) Standardized Letter of Recommendation (SLOR) workgroup. She helped design and implement the structured evaluation tool adopted nationally in 2022, and was elected to the ADMSEP Council in 2024 with an anticipated presidency in 2030. In 2023, she received the prestigious ADMSEP Devneil Vaidya Award for her promising work as an early-career psychiatry educator.
“Dr. Raml has always focused on clinical excellence, medical education leadership, and national institutional engagement,” said Daniel Gih, MD, Vice-Chair for Education in the Psychiatry Department. “She has always impressed me with her equanimity and kindness and has been a force for change as one of our key clinical and educational leaders.”
