SPOTLIGHT: Chase Brice

Clinical Research Associate

Chase graduated from the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor with a degree in Biology (Pre-PA). Chase grew up in Austin, Texas, and also served as an officer in the Army National Guard. Before joining the psychiatry department, Chase worked in several management roles.

Why did you join the psychiatry department?

I’ve always had a passion for health, medicine, and the sciences, but mental health has stood out to me as a deep personal interest. Coming from a long line of military family members, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges surrounding brain health and the impact it can have on individuals and families. Those experiences have shaped my dedication to supporting mental health work and ultimately led me to the psychiatry department.

What do you enjoy about working in research?

Working in research allows me to see what studies are being explored, what questions are driving our field, and how current investigations are shaping the future of medicine. It’s an exciting space to be in today. My work is also very dynamic. I may be conducting study visits with participants, preparing submissions for new projects our team has developed, analyzing data, or reviewing neuroimaging. I enjoy being hands-on while also seeing the behind-the-scenes process of how studies are designed and moved forward.

What are some projects you are working on with the research division?

One of our current projects is a study evaluating an intranasal oxytocin intervention for caregivers of individuals with dementia. We’re examining whether oxytocin can help reduce stress levels in caregivers by monitoring their stress responses throughout the study.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

I’ve always been an avid reader and enjoy exploring a wide range of books. I also love spending time with my family, and most of my weekends are dedicated to taking my three-year-old daughter (Olive) wherever she wants to go (usually the zoo).

Sharing is caring!
