HICSA nurse wins Positive Image in Nursing award

Lori Davitt, RN, was honored by her peers with the Positive Image in Nursing Award.

Davitt received the award during a “Celebrate Nursing” event on May 3, 2025, at the Scott Conference Center in Omaha.

“I was really surprised I got the award because I just come to work and do my job,” Davitt said. “So, when I was told that I was going to get the award, I was really surprised. I would like to believe I received it because I have a good work ethic, and I try to have a lack of negativity toward my job.”

Davitt has been a nurse since 1985 and joined the Geriatric Division of the Department of Psychiatry almost seven years ago. She said she loves coming to work each day at the Home Instead Center for Successful Aging (HICSA).

“I love working with this team. I love working with our patients,” she said. “I started in long-term care and started working with the elderly when I came to Nebraska Medicine. I couldn’t imagine working with any other age.”

The Nebraska Nurses Association (NNA) awards the Positive Image of Nursing Award annually to recognize registered nurses who demonstrate a commitment and dedication to the nursing profession. Department of Psychiatry Geriatric Division Director Steven Wengel, MD, said Davitt is the perfect recipient for the award.

“I asked my fellow geriatric psychiatrists to give me a single word or two that best describes Lori’s work with our patients. I also asked them to send me their chosen words directly, not sharing them with the group.  Interestingly, but not surprisingly, each of us used the word ‘dedicated’!  When I looked up that word, the dictionary tells us that to be dedicated is to be ‘devoted to a task or purpose,’ with extraordinary loyalty and integrity. That’s it – that’s Lori to a T.  Laser-focused on helping our patients and helping us help them. Thank you, Lori, and congratulations on this well-deserved award!”
