The Annual Division of Radiation Science Technology Education (RSTE) Pinning Ceremony took place on Friday afternoon, September 10, 2010. It is a symbol of the students’ formal introduction into their chosen field of the Radiation Science profession at UNMC. RSTE faculty and Associate Dean of the School of Allied Health Professions, Kyle Meyer, PhD, welcomed the students and their families.
The ceremony is focused on professionalism, which encompasses the concepts of ethical behavior, compassionate care, and service to others. During this ceremony, students are given their RSTE pin and they recite an oath to emphasize the high standards expected of them as they care for patients. The pin symbolizes that the wearer is dedicated to the highest principles of respect, competency, service, and integrity. Brett Thomas, a recent graduate of the RSTE division, led the new students in the oath.
Master of Ceremony, Connie Mitchell, Radiography Program Director, stated, “It gives the family and friends of the students an opportunity to meet the faculty and to tour the clinical areas in which the students will rotate.” Programs within the Division of RSTE include Radiography, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
