Kara Ruocco, a student in the UNMC Medical Nutrition program, received the 2026 Nebraska Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics Outstanding Dietetics Student award at the NAND Annual Conference held April 23 and 24 in Lincoln, Neb.

The award recognizes Kara’s dedication to service, leadership, and excellence in nutrition and dietetics. Through her strong work ethic, professionalism, and genuine commitment to supporting others, Kara exemplifies the values of the Academy and the promise of the next generation of dietetics professionals.

The purpose of the Outstanding Dietetics Student Award program is to recognize the emerging leadership and achievement of students in Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics approved dietetics education programs and encourage their participation in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Each state is allowed to recognize one student from each type of dietetics education program within the state. The student must be a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, enrolled in an ACEND-accredited dietetics education program, demonstrated academic achievements as documented by letters of recommendation from program faculty or preceptor, and demonstrated leadership and professional potential.
