Collaborations lead to a publication and international exposure

A cross-campus collaboration resulted in the publication of, “Urinary metabolites as biomarkers of dietary intake: a systematic review,” accepted by Frontiers in Nutrition. Authors from the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Mayo Clinic in Arizona, UNMC College of Medicine, and the UNMC Leon S. McGoogan Health Sciences Library include: Mariah Kay Jackson, PhD, (CAHP), Bing Wang, PhD, (UNL), Heather Rasmussen, PhD, (UNL), Sathish Kumar Natarajan, PhD, (UNL), Laura D Bilek, PhD (CAHP), Diane K Ehlers, PhD, (Mayo Clinic-AZ; CAHP adjunct), Laura Graeff-Armas, MD, PhD, (COM), Christopher D’Angelo, MD, (COM), Teresa Cochran, DPT, (CAHP), Kimberly Harp (Library) and Corrine Hanson, PhD, (CAHP).

Dr. Jackson will be presenting three abstract poster presentations on June 18 in Lisbon, Portugal at the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) international conference:

  • “Assessment of a Fiber-rich Diet in Post-treatment Breast Cancer Survivors” – Medical Nutrition graduate Gretchen Moll and capstone chair Mariah Jackson, PhD, with addtional mentorship from CAHP faculty Corri Hanson, PhD, Jana Ponce, PhD, Megan Timmerman, and Rachel Lietka, and Laura Tenner, MD (COM, Buffett Cancer Center).
  • “CT Scan Identified Sarcopenia and MST and AND/ASPEN Malnutrition Guidelines in Gastrointestinal Cancer Patients” – Research done by UNMC graduate and CAHP adjunct faculty Samantha Dieckmann, PhD, CAHP faculty: Mariah Jackson, PhD; Jana Ponce, PhD; and Corri Hanson, PhD, and Laura Tenner, MD (COM, Buffett Cancer Center).
  • “Dietary differences exist among rural and urban cancer survivors” – Mariah Jackson, PhD, and Cancer Center/CON team members Robin Lally, PhD, Rachael Schmidt, DNP, and Becky Johnson Beller, PhD
