Over 20 years of holiday cheer at Ronald McDonald House

From the archives: James Temme (left) gathers around a Christmas tree at Ronald McDonald House with faculty and students. Tanya Custer, PhD, is far right behind the couch.

It’s a fun holiday tradition that goes back over 20 years.

Students, faculty, and staff in our medical imaging and therapeutic sciences programs help decorate the Ronald McDonald House for the holidays each December. From the basement, they haul out totes filled with lights, garland, and themed decorations to bedeck numerous trees throughout the house.

While the number of volunteers was limited during COVID, students were still able to make the house festive for the families in small numbers. This year, things seemed back to normal. Associate Professor Tanya Custer, PhD, carried out the tradition including providing chili and cookies for the volunteers.

Jim Temme was known for providing his award winning chili when he ran the event. When he retired in 2022 it seemed natural for Dr. Custer to take over the planning, and the chili.

“It’s not Jim’s chili,” said Dr. Custer, “but I did my best.”

Photos from the evening are in this album on Flickr.
