Students from the PT and PA programs took part in a health fair for residents of New Cassel Retirement Center on Feb 13. The health fair was organized by the Interprofessional Aging Interest Group, a multidisciplinary group of students (MD, nursing, PT, PA, pharmacy, and social work) interested in the care of older adults and issues involved with aging. The Aging Interest Group is advised by Dr. Ed Vandenberg from the Division of Geriatrics. Sally Hand from Geriatrics also assists in coordinating their activities.
At the health fair, PT students were responsible for balance and mobility screening, fall risk education, and osteoporosis education. PA students performed blood pressure and pulse checks, and assessed blood sugars. Other stations at the health fair were staffed by nursing, pharmacy, and medical students and included nutrition education, medication assessment, and hearing and vision screening.
