Connie Mitchell of UNMC Named ASRT Fellow

The following is a news release from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT):

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Connie L. Mitchell, M.A., R.T.(R)(CT), assistant professor and radiography program director of the division of radiation science technology education in the University of Nebraska Medical Center School of Allied Health Professions, has been has been elevated to Fellow status by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Ms. Mitchell was honored at a ceremony on June 26 at the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting in Albuquerque.

Fellow status is bestowed on members who have served the ASRT by volunteering in leadership positions, authoring articles, lecturing at meetings and helping to advance the radiologic science profession. Members elevated to Fellow earn the right to use the designation “FASRT” following their professional credentials.

Ms. Mitchell’s career in the radiologic sciences spans nearly four decades. After graduating from the radiography program at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she started working as a fluoroscopy technologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Ms. Mitchell worked in the UNMC radiology department for 22 years before accepting a position as clinical coordinator for the radiography program. After several years teaching, she moved into her current role as radiography program director in 2001. Ms. Mitchell has been with UNMC for 39 years.

During her career, Ms. Mitchell has been actively involved with the ASRT and the Nebraska Society of Radiologic Technologists. She served on the ASRT Board of Directors from 2004-2009 in a variety of positions including president and chairman of the Board. Additionally, she served as a delegate in the ASRT House and was a member of numerous committees, task forces and project groups. At the state level, she was honored as the Technologist of the Year by the NSRT in 2004 and was named a Life Member of the NSRT in 2006.

Ms. Mitchell earned her bachelor’s degree in health care administration from Bellevue University in Omaha, Neb., and a Master of Arts degree in health education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
