Physical Therapy Associate Director Sara Bills, DPT, recently participated in a summit sponsored by the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT) National Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Commission (NEDIC). Dr. Bills was selected for this invitation-only event based on her leadership, impact, and influence in increasing racial/ethnic diversity in the health professions.
Dr. Bills was able to share her experiences developing and implementing holistic admissions in the College of Allied Health Professions. She also introduced RHOP as an exemplar pathways program.
Bills said, “It was an honor to be invited to participate in the summit. It was energizing working alongside colleagues that share the same vision to create positive change in this area. The work that will come out of the post-summit task forces will be tremendously helpful in guiding our profession towards increased equity, inclusion and diversity.”
The 2.5 day summit brought together professionals of diverse backgrounds and expertise who convened in collaborative workgroups designed to craft the foundation for best practices and resources that will transform the educational experiences of underrepresented minority students and faculty in physical therapy.
