Congenital Heart Defect Research

The American Heart Association (AHA) and The Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF) have established a collaborative research award program for medical professionals to better understand and treat congenital heart defects (CHDs), the most common birth defect in the United States.

Scientists conducting research to prevent and treat CHDs may submit applications for the next round of funding by September 19, 2019. The application categories align with standard AHA Predoctoral Fellowship, Postdoctoral Fellowship, Career Development Awards, and Transformational Project Awards.

The newest recipients of the Congenital Heart Defect Research Awards program:

  • Ai Wern Chung, PhD., Boston Children’s Hospital: Exploring differences in brain structure among adults with CHD
  • Rafael Jaime, Children’s Research Institute, Washington, D.C.: Research into the changes seen in metabolism after cardiopulmonary bypass.
