What’s New for AHA Fellowships?

AHA mirrors the current NIH stipends and health insurance amounts.

    • Mentors may now supervise up to two AHA-funded predoctoral fellows AND two AHA-funded postdoctoral fellows.
    • AHA does not require fellows to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Success rates last year were 32% for Postdoctoral Fellowships and 34% for Pre-doctoral Fellowships.

Have You Heard?

  • The AHA funds basic, clinical, behavioral, translational and population research, bioengineering/ biotechnology, and public health problems broadly related to fulfilling our mission to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
  • AHA awards are open to the array of academic and health professionals. This includes but is not limited to all academic disciplines (biology, chemistry, mathematics, technology, physics, etc.) and all health-related professions (physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, dentists, physical and occupational therapists, statisticians, nutritionists, etc.).
  • Clinical, translational, population, and basic scientists are encouraged to apply.
  • AHA strongly encourages applications by women, underrepresented minorities in the sciences, and those who have experienced varied and non-traditional career trajectories.
  • Applicants must be AHA Professional Members –- application submission is a member benefit.

The AHA Application Information web page will contain updates about subsequent programs and you can begin preparing your application, even if Grants@Heart is not yet open for the program to which you will apply. The Supporting Documents page lists the documents that will need to be uploaded as part of the application. Click on each document title for specific instructions.
