Public Health Association of Nebraska (PHAN) Annual Conference

Public Health Practice – The 2017 Public Health Association of Nebraska (PHAN) annual conference was held on September 21 and 22 in Lincoln, NE. This year’s theme was Public Health 150: Opportunities for Innovation, Advocacy, and Action. Over 20 students, staff, and faculty from UNMC COPH attended the conference. UNMC Students Respond to Hurricane Harvey

Public Health Practice – When Hurricane Harvey hit, and distress calls overwhelmed the 911 call system in Houston, the UNMC student response team jumped into action and was activated through their global partners at the Standby Task Force. The student’s role was to “mine” social media coming in from the affected area, and to record the longitude and latitude coordinates for people in need of rescue.
