Student Highlight:  Anthony Blake 

Hometown: Originally born in Phoenix Arizona, but moved to Omaha in 1994.  

Degree and concentration: Masters of Public Health, Environmental & Occupational Health concentration 

What brought you to the field of public health? I have always had a passion for helping others, and I feel that the field of public health is going to allow me to do that on a grand scale. Additionally, it allows me to continue my education and passion for the sciences.  

What do you like most about the COPH? The diversity. I have met so many individuals with such varied backgrounds and expertise. On a genetic level, we know that augmented variation results in favorable adaptions and outcomes. I believe this to be the case at the College of Public Health with the heightened level of diversity. Everyone has been extremely helpful and encouraging.  

What are your career goals after graduation? I hope to obtain a job looking at how water and air quality affect human health. My pipedream is to obtain a job on the state or federal level.  

Please share three things people may not know about you.  

• I absolutely love Sherlock Holmes and anything Marvel.  
• I am an avid golfer and got my first hole in one after 2 years of golf.  
• Lastly, I grew up poor and had a rough childhood. I didn’t really commit to my education until I was about 17.
