We are raising money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for their 2011 Walk. This 4th Annual NAMIWalk is on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Elmwood Park. We are trying to raise money to sponsor this cause and support the walkers. NAMI Programs are supported by funds and donations from YOU. Your support of the WALK will assist us in providing these programs at no cost to participants. Join us in fulfilling our mission of improving the lives of individuals living with mental illness, and their loved ones. Our goal is to raise at least $2,000.
Did you know that:
-There are more than 91,000 people with serious mental problems in Nebraska?
-One out of five children in Nebraska are affected by mental health problems-their own or their parents?
-Suicide is the third leading cause of death in Nebraska for young people between the ages 8 and 24?
There has not been enough attention towards mental illnesses and this is a prevalent occurrence in our society. Below are some personal statements of the walkers that we want to support.
“After talking with Antonia Correa upon losing my 4 years old daughter due to a Medulloblastoma (a highly malignant primary brain tumor that originates in the cerebellum or posterior fossa), it helped understand that depression caused by the loss of my child was something that I should not be ashamed. I support NAMI for all those who may be depressed every day and have no one to talk.” – NAMI Walker
“After seeing the movie “The Soloist”, it reinforced my commitment to fighting against the stigma associated with any mental health disorder. I support NAMI for all the family members, friends and acquaintances who deserve better quality of mental health services.” – Antonia Correa
