Diane Sylofski, 2011 Robert D. Sparks, MD, Public Health Research Student Award

Diane is a second-year doctoral student in the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research program and a graduate assistant at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She worked as a group fitness instructor as an undergraduate, and as a graduate student, has an assistantship coordinating fitness programs for university students. Before returning to school to pursue her PhD, Diane worked as the fitness coordinator at the University of Florida, where she managed all aspects of the university’s group fitness program.

Diane currently manages Fit Minded, a book club aimed at helping women become more physically active through improvements to their self-worth, social support, and physical activity knowledge. Her areas of research include women and girls’ health and utilizing the Internet to deliver physical activity programs. Diane plans to pursue a career as a physical activity interventionist and researcher in an academic setting.
