He said serving as an officer in the U.S. Army gave him a deep sense of purpose that carried into his new role in behavioral healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLeading soldiers taught me to look beyond my own needs and focus on the well-being and success of others,\u201d Brice said. \u201cBoth in the military and in behavioral health, progress comes from teamwork, compassion, and a shared commitment to something greater than ourselves. My service helped me see the bigger picture, stay grounded under pressure, and consistently prioritize people&#8217;s needs. These values continue to guide me every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Madison Nolan, a medical receptionist in the Psychiatry Clinic, joined the staff in April. Prior to working at Nebraska Medicine, she worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as an administrative assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI made a lot of connections and learned so many things, but I knew I wanted a future working in health care, so I decided to make a switch,\u201d Nolan said. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Logan Ford, MD, U.S. Army, accepted a position as an assistant professor in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three joined a psychiatry department staff with a large contingent of veterans, including Stephen Salzbrenner, MD, who said his time in the U.S. Navy helped him develop leadership skills and flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt also gave me the ability to treat a diverse variety of patients and conditions,\u201d said Dr. Salzbrenner. \u201cIt has come in handy throughout my career, especially when there were leadership opportunities or challenges that required creative solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with the thirteen Department of Psychiatry faculty and staff members who have served in the military, there are also many spouses of employees who have served.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFreedom requires great sacrifice, and I wanted to thank our department\u2019s veterans, National Guard, Reserves, and family members of service members for your courageous service,\u201d said Howard Liu, MD, MBA, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry. \u201cThank you for bringing your dedication to teamwork to every mission we have in psychiatry, from clinical care to the academic mission.
