Leah Jesse, MD, has been very active in her first month in the Department of Psychiatry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jesse, a 2018 graduate of UNMC College of Medicine, joined the faculty on October 1, 2025. Along with her duties as a child and adolescent psychiatrist and assistant professor, Dr. Jesse appeared on an ASK UNMC segment, a Nebraska Public Media video, and presented at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) conference in Chicago, Illinois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After finishing her psychiatry residency and child and adolescent fellowship at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Jesse returned to Omaha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am thrilled to be back at UNMC and working in the department of psychiatry. The number of physicians on faculty has tripled since I left for medical school, and it\u2019s exciting to be in a place with so much growth and potential.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While at the AACAP conference, Dr. Jesse had two presentations: \u201cManaging the Rise in College Students Seeking Diagnosis and Treatment of ADHD\u201d and \u201cWait, Wait, Don\u2019t Tell Me What I Weigh.\u201d  She presented with Daniel Gih, MD, Department of Psychiatry Vice-Chair for Education; Jennifer L. Derenne, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University School of Medicine; and Ellen House, MD, AU\/UGA Medical Partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBoth of my presentations at AACAP focused on college-aged students who are experiencing immense pressures from content they are viewing on social media,\u201d said Dr. Jesse. \u201cI focused on trying to understand their perspectives as they relate to challenges with attention spans and weight concerns, with the hope that clinicians will be able to better connect with their patients on these topics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jesse\u2019s clinical interests include: adolescent and young adult mental health, college-aged mental health, reproductive psychiatry, ADHD, OCD, and mood disorders. She will be providing psychiatric service at the University of Nebraska Omaha student health clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
