Abby was born in\u00a0Bury St. Edmunds,\u00a0England, but moved to Omaha at a young age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She began working at Nebraska Medicine in 2020 as a patient attendant (PAT). In May 2024, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Clarkson College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How have your job duties changed during your time at Nebraska Med? <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a nurse, I have a much broader scope than when I first began as a PAT. It\u2019s exciting to me that I now have more opportunities to advocate for my patients, as I have more clarity on their situations and available resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What made you want to work in behavioral health? <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behavioral health has always felt like a good fit for me. Before becoming a CNA, I spent several years working with memory support residents. During this time, I developed patience and empathy, but more than anything, my desire grew to ensure that these and other vulnerable patient populations were heard and recognized. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I chose behavioral health because I wanted to be there for people in their most vulnerable moments. I hope to positively impact the individuals in our community by reassuring them and reminding them that they don\u2019t need to fight their battles alone.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What made you want to work in Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES)?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working as a PAT, I realized I might be spending time with a patient on one of the worst days of their life, so I made it my goal to brighten their day, if possible. I went to the PES to monitor patients on a couple of occasions. I was overjoyed when I saw there was an opening for a tech in the PES. After working as a tech on the unit for just over a year, I was fortunate to transition to an RN position after earning my BSN at Clarkson College in May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How have you seen the PES grow during your time in the department? <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have been excited to watch the PES unit continue to grow. Advancements have been made, such as Fast Pass, which allows patients to transition to our unit more seamlessly and receive more prompt psychiatric care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are some of your favorite hobbies when you\u2019re not working?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I\u2019m not working, you\u2019ll find me spending time with my wonderful family and fianc\u00e9, at the dog park with my bernedoodle Phoebe (named after Phoebe from Friends, of course!), thrifting, or exercising.  <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
