Shortly after discovering he was staying in Omaha, Dr. Jesse said he was excited to continue training at UNMC. Dr. Moore said he wanted to stay in Nebraska to fill a need for psychiatrists in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Bamberg said UNMC was her top choice to do her residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI graduated from medical school in South Dakota, and I was looking for a program with a similar smaller feel,\u201d she said. \u201cI feel like at UNMC I can learn well in a comfortable environment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Le graduated from the UNMC College of Medicine and hoped to stay in Omaha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was the lone program where I could be 100 percent confident that I will be comfortable,\u201d he said. \u201cI know the faculty. I know how things work. During my psychiatry rotation in medical school, I really felt valued as a learner, and I felt part of the team. That respect is very valuable, because I know it would not change when I became a resident.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Dines said he wanted to come to UNMC after learning about the department\u2019s WISE program, which, among other principles, focuses on resident wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlong with the learning, I like that wellness is important in the program,\u201d said Dr. Dines, a flight surgeon in the US Navy, before matching with UNMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Psychiatry has 19 residents. Since it was re-established in 2020, the program has seen six residents graduate or transfer to fellowship programs.
