Daniel Gih, MD, has been named Vice-Chair of Education for the Department of Psychiatry, effective July 1, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The role comes five years after Dr. Gih was named Director of Education for the department. During the five years, Dr. Gih oversaw the creation of a psychiatry residency program with six graduates and currently trains 19 residents.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While establishing the residency program was a key initiative, Dr. Gih had other goals, including improving the grand rounds series, ensuring networking and mentorship of junior faculty, increasing academic recognition (awards, publications, and presentations), recruiting faculty and trainees, encouraging faculty promotion, and sponsoring trainee attendance at national conferences.  <\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cI felt I\u2019ve done a good job of hitting those benchmarks,\u201d Dr. Gih said. \u201cMy charge in this new role is to further work on promotion, mentorship of our academic faculty and expanding educational training programs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty promotion will be a key goal as the psychiatry department employs 19 faculty members who are less than five years from residency training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe balance of our faculty is filled with assistant professors, many of which have a great chance of being promoted,\u201d said Dr. Gih, who was promoted to professor in July 2023. \u201cWe will do strategic planning to ensure we always have people up for awards, and our new faculty members are trending toward promotion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gih is a member of the American College of Psychiatrists, the Association for Academic Psychiatry, and the American Association for Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training. Dr. Gih achieved distinguished fellow status from the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
