{"id":4384,"date":"2023-01-16T13:53:27","date_gmt":"2023-01-16T19:53:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/library\/?p=4384"},"modified":"2023-01-18T13:44:07","modified_gmt":"2023-01-18T19:44:07","slug":"if-you-write-you-need-an-orcid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/library\/2023\/01\/16\/if-you-write-you-need-an-orcid\/","title":{"rendered":"If you write, you need an ORCID"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>ORCID (Open Research and Contributor ID) provides a free, persistent digital identifier that allows you to manage a record of your authorship and research activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Author ambiguity in the scholarly research community is a persistent problem due to similar or commons names, name changes, and cultural differences in name presentation.&nbsp;ORCID&nbsp;allows you to distinguish yourself from other researchers and to unambiguously associate your identity with your scholarly work.&nbsp;ORCID&nbsp;is integrated into many systems used by publishers, funders, institutions, and other research-related services.&nbsp;At University of Nebraska Medical Center, your ORCID profile will be linked to your Research Nebraska profile<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your&nbsp;ORCID&nbsp;iD:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>distinguishes you and ensures your research outputs and activities are correctly attributed to you<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reliably and easily connects you with your contributions and affiliations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reduces form-filling (enter data once, re-use it often)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>improves recognition and discoverability for you and your research outputs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>is interoperable (works with many institutions, funders, and publishers)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>is persistent (enduring)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn how to set up an ORCID ID, have your account associated with your UNMC Net ID, and link your articles with Scopus, see the registration handout below.
