Chemical Abstracts Service and SciFinder Scholar reminds us to make sure that you are using the latest web browser technology to ensure the best user experience with SciFinder’s capabilities.

As a reminder, CAS does not support the Internet Explorer 6 platform for the web version of SciFinder due to its inability to support newer web standards. If you are using Internet Explorer 6 as your primary web browser, you will experience performance issues with the web version of SciFinder.

CAS strongly recommends that you upgrade your browser to one of the latest versions from Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari in order to achieve optimal performance when using the web version of SciFinder.

If you are using Internet Explorer 6 with the web version of SciFinder, you are strongly encouraged to upgrade your web browser if possible. If this is not possible, and you are receiving an error message – “An unexpected error has occurred” after logging in, this additional information that may help you.

If you have the proper permissions to update your browser settings:

  1. Start Internet Explorer 6
  2. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu
  3. Select the Advanced tab
  4. Scroll down to HTTP 1.1 Settings
  5. Check the option labeled Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections
  6. Click OK.

If the above solution does not work or if you do not have the proper permission to change browser settings, add “origin-” to the SciFinder URL (e.g., https://scifinder.cas.org becomes https://origin-scifinder.cas.org).
