Over the course of my fellowship, I am excited to dive deep into managing complex inpatient and outpatient ID consults, working alongside dedicated faculty and multidisciplinary teams. Beyond core clinical care, I look forward to contributing to clinical research, engaging in medical education, and exploring various subspecialty areas as my clinical interests evolve. I am thrilled to continue my medical training here in Omaha and serve our community in this new role!

Tell us about your background

My parents are from Hama (Dad) and Homs (Mom), Syria, and later moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for work, where I was born. I completed medical school at Alfaisal University in Riyadh, where I briefly served as a teaching assistant before moving to Omaha for my internal medicine residency training at Creighton University. Growing up with a dad who is a pediatric surgeon, I always looked up to his dedication, compassion, and relentless curiosity. He and my family have been my greatest role models and support system throughout my own path in medicine.

What makes you excited about working in ID

What excites me most about Infectious Diseases is that it allows you to intersect almost every area of medicine while forming deep, meaningful connections with patients. Whether managing acute, life-threatening infections on consult services or guiding long-term outpatient recovery, you have the opportunity to make an immediate, tangible impact. Beyond bedside care, ID is a fascinating blend of dynamic science, diagnostic problem-solving, and collaboration with primary teams across the hospital. The constant evolution of the field, from emerging pathogens to novel therapies and antibiotic stewardship keeps me deeply inspired every day.

Tell us something about yourself that is unrelated to medicine

Outside of medicine, you can usually find me hunting down local coffee spots, catching the latest movie, or diving into all things makeup and beauty. I’m also the eldest daughter of four (with three younger brothers!), so staying close with my family is my ultimate way to recharge.

Tell us about your first few months as a fellow

My first few months as an ID fellow have been an incredible journey of fast-paced growth and steep learning. Stepping into the fellow role brings an exciting new level of autonomy, and diving straight into complex consults alongside our supportive faculty and co-fellows has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. Whether unraveling tricky diagnostic cases or building strong working relationships with teams across the hospital, every day brings fascinating learning opportunities. What has stood out to me most is the incredibly welcoming culture within the division, the constant guidance from faculty and genuine camaraderie among fellow trainees have made this transition both smooth and deeply inspiring, reminding me every day why I am pursuing infectious diseases.

Dr. Kazkaz at her residency graduation

Leave This Blank:Leave This Blank Too:Do Not Change This:
Your email:

We are excited to welcome Dr. Hind Kazkaz as a new fellow in our Infectious Diseases program!
