{"id":5524,"date":"2023-12-13T10:38:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-13T16:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/infectious-disease\/?p=5524"},"modified":"2023-12-10T13:38:54","modified_gmt":"2023-12-10T19:38:54","slug":"unmc-id-in-the-community-blankets-for-those-in-need","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/infectious-disease\/2023\/12\/13\/unmc-id-in-the-community-blankets-for-those-in-need\/","title":{"rendered":"UNMC ID in the Community: Blankets for Those in Need"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Every fall, the UNMC student-led organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/oce\/engagement\/student-groups\/fostering-future.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fostering the Future <\/a>sponsors a project\u00a0to create blankets for foster children, women and children at shelters, refugee families, children undergoing long-term medical treatments, and adults undergoing chemotherapy. This year, the <strong>UNMC ID Specialty Care Clinic<\/strong> decided to get into the holiday spirit and join the fun by cutting and tying fleece blankets for donation to youth in foster care with help from Project Everlast, Project Harmony, Partnership 4 Kids, and the Omaha Police Department. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for at-risk youth and the overall health of our community by providing a continuum of resources, education, leadership opportunities and impactful personal experience to create healthy, positive, sustainable futures for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual blanket project is just one of several ways to get involved.
