Since 1976, each February has been host to a series of events recognizing the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout U.S. history. It is as much a celebration as it is a time of education and reflection. Accordingly, UNMC has planned multiple events to share and commemorate African American culture. Check out the UNMC Newsroom’s post<\/a> for full details and see below for an abbreviated summary of this week’s events.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speakers and Panels<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

February 6th, 7pm<\/strong>
Tiffany Gamble<\/strong>, executive director of Emerging Ladies Academy and CEO of Gamble Tech Firm, along with David Pollock<\/strong>, founder of Code Black, will discuss the need for more African Americans in IT. Presentation via YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

February 7th, 12pm<\/strong>
Presentation by Kia Noelle Johnson, PhD<\/strong>, associate director of the Arthur M. Blank Center for Stuttering Education and Research Satellite in Atlanta and chair of the board of directors for the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing. Zoom link here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

February 8th, 1pm<\/strong>
Preston Love Jr.<\/strong>, former University of Nebraska Cornhusker football player, Nebraska Black Sports Hall of Fame inductee and founder of 4Urban, will present \u201cRecent Attempts to Turn Wine into Water.\u201d Love will discuss the fullness and richness of Black history and the deep waters of racism and politics. February 6th-24th<\/strong>
Donate to a campuswide diaper and supply drive. Donations will go to A Mother\u2019s Love and the Nebraska Diaper Bank. A list of donations and drop-off locations can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

February 25th<\/strong>
A two-hour guided tour of North Omaha.
