{"id":395,"date":"2017-10-05T08:00:50","date_gmt":"2017-10-05T13:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/infectious-disease\/?p=395"},"modified":"2017-09-25T13:41:42","modified_gmt":"2017-09-25T18:41:42","slug":"395","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/infectious-disease\/2017\/10\/05\/395\/","title":{"rendered":"Resistant CMV &#8211; Research Aimed at the Cure"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Infections due to Cytomegalovirus(CMV) remain a significant problem for patients undergoing various types of transplants, including both hematopoietic stem cell transplants and solid organ transplant, particularly since these groups both require the use of potent immunosuppressive chemotherapy. Although the currently available systemic anti-cytomegalovirus agents are usually effective, their use is limited by their toxicities, especially in transplant recipients, who receive ongoing immunosuppressive medications to prevent organ rejection or graft-versus-host disease, and who receive other potential nephrotoxic therapies.
