Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs Coordinator – Closes 7/6/2020 11:59 PM CST

This position will predominately serve as the Evidence-Based Programs Coordinator (75%) and will assist with pharmacy-based initiatives aimed at improving management of diabetes, hypertension, and cholesterol (25%). Evidence-based programs currently include the Living Well Programs (Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, Diabetes Self-Management Program, Chronic Pain Self-Management Program) and Healthy Heart Ambassador Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program. This position works as part of a collaborative team to assure effective implementation and evaluation of program activities.

Diabetes and Nutrition Programs Coordinator – Closes 7/10/20 11:59 PM CST

Serve as the subject matter expert for diabetes management and education programming with a focus on improving access to and participation Diabetes Self-Management Education & Support (DSMES) programs; enhancing DSMES coverage among insurers or employers; and improving quality of diabetes care among healthcare providers. This position works as part of a collaborative team to assure effective implementation and evaluation of program activities.

Research Technician, UNL

Research Technician
University of Nebraska-Lincoln

The Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory and Pediatric Health Laboratory at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are seeking to hire a research technician. This person will have the opportunity to work across multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded projects focusing on the interplay between cognitive development (particularly executive control), environmental factors, health behaviors and health outcomes. The projects currently involve collecting data from adolescents and young adults who have participated in an ongoing longitudinal study since preschool. Adolescent health behaviors and outcomes of interest include diet, physical activity, sleep, substance use, obesity risk and mental health problems. Young adult data collection will include neuroimaging paradigms with particular relevance to obesity risk. A variety of methodologies are used across projects, including computer-based neuropsychological tasks; actigraphy; online 24-hour dietary recalls; mapping of community environments; interviews and standardized questionnaires; and fMRI.

Position involves conducting lab-based data collection sessions, assisting with scheduling participants for sessions, and assisting in the processing of data after sessions. Sessions for the adolescent studies include administering computer-based tasks to adolescents, administering questionnaires to adolescents and parents, and preparing participants for out-of-session data collection procedures. Sessions for the young adult study include assisting the MRI technologist with the neuroimaging data collection protocol and administering questionnaires. Some evening and weekend hours will be necessary for conducting data collection sessions. Opportunities for involvement in research dissemination, such as national conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications, are available based on interest.

Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, education, science, nursing or related health field. Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary. Must be organized, detail-oriented, and have ability to work as a part of a team. Preferred qualifications include experience working with adolescents and/or young adults, experience with research or with testing protocols, and training and/or experience in neuroscience.

Position Description

The Summer Youth Ambassador is responsible for providing operational and tactical support to the No Kid Hungry Program. The position reports to the Economic Justice Senior Program Coordinator.

Position Responsibilities

  • Conducts summer food service program site visits to include: observations, interviews and story collection
  • Update and rewrite the Nebraska Summer Meals Best Practices Toolkit
  • Create blogs, website and social media posts
  • Work on assigned projects specific to No Kid Hungry and Nebraska Appleseed
  • Attend partnership meetings
  • Complete administrative work in support of No Kid Hungry and Nebraska Appleseed

Youth Ambassadors will receive a stipend of no more than $5,400 between the beginning and end of the program: a total of 360 hours over 10 weeks. Upon the successful completion of the program a $500 bonus will be provided. The program begins on May 18, 2020 and ends July 24, 2020.

CDC’s Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) application open until Jan 28

The Public Health Associate Program (PHAP), a unique public health training program with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), will open its 2020 application period January 22–28. PHAP is seeking exceptional recent college graduates interested in public health careers.

PHAP is a two year, competitive, paid training program. Associates gain broad, hands-on experience working in public health programs in state, tribal, local, and territorial public health departments; nongovernmental organizations; public health institutes and associations; academic institutions; and CDC quarantine stations. UNO Doctoral Research Assistantship

The Physical Activity in Health Promotion Lab at the University of Nebraska at Omaha is seeking a doctoral-level research assistant. This funded position will involve a variety of duties related to conducting research studies and assisting in data collection with young children and families. Job duties will include assisting in designing research studies; recruiting participants; collecting and analyzing data collection; and contributing/leading grants and manuscripts.
