The Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking to fill a non-tenure track nine-month (academic year) Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice faculty position to coordinate and teach in undergraduate and graduate programs in community nutrition, health, wellness and health promotion. The primary responsibilities of this position include collaboration with the primary teaching areas in the department; teach courses related to community nutrition, health promotion and related topics; and participate in faculty service activities. This position will be fully engaged in the on-going process of curriculum revision and development to meet the changing needs of the workforce. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in student education in the classroom and in the community, interest in online teaching, and a desire to join a growing and vibrant department in which innovation in student education is expected. Service is expected and will include participation in student recruitment and retention activities, committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the Department, College, and University level. Participation in professional societies is also expected.
This is a full-time 9-month appointment with 95% instruction and 5% service. Appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice and salary are dependent upon experiences and qualifications.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
• Teach courses in:
o Community nutrition that include food insecurity, food systems, food sustainability and incorporate social and healthcare perspectives
o Healthy living and wellness
o Planning and implementation of health promotion programs
o Experiential learning in community settings
o Related areas as needed by the department
• Ensure courses and experiential learning include partnerships and collaboration with public health, Extension, social services, dietetics, healthcare, entrepreneurs, for profit and non-profit businesses, and related areas, with a focus on health equity
• Coordinate academic programs in community nutrition, health promotion, and wellness
• Develop courses with learning objectives that support program outcomes
• Develop, implement, and report processes and procedures for community-related experiential learning courses
• Document and coordinate community site agreements in collaboration with college business center
• Conduct and document experiential learning site preceptor evaluation and training
• Mentor students
Minimum Qualifications:
• MS in nutrition and/or MPH in nutrition and/or master’s degree in closely related field
• Active engagement in community-based nutrition and health promotion
• University- or community-based teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD or equivalent degree in nutrition, health promotion, public health or closely related field
• At least one year of university teaching experience
• At least one year of teaching online courses
• At least one year of paid work experience in a community setting
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential
